What is a workbook-first CRM?

Most CRMs store your companies, contacts and deals in a database that belongs to the vendor. You can usually export a CSV, but the live copy of your data lives on their servers, in their schema, reachable only through their app.

FreeCRiM inverts that. Your companies, contacts and deals are rows in an ordinary Excel workbook, stored in your own Microsoft 365 - the same OneDrive or SharePoint library you already use for everything else. The workbook is the record. FreeCRiM is a web app that reads and writes it, and keeps a small cache of its rows so lists and searches load quickly, but the cache is disposable: it can always be rebuilt from the workbook, and it is never the only place your data exists.

Why this matters

  • You already own the file. It sits in your Microsoft 365 storage under your account, with the same sharing and backup behaviour as every other file there.
  • Nothing is locked in. Stop using FreeCRiM and the workbook does not disappear, get exported, or need converting. It is already an .xlsx file.
  • You can share it your way. Anyone you give access to the file in SharePoint or OneDrive can work with it inside FreeCRiM too, because the file - not an invite from FreeCRiM - decides who can reach it.

What FreeCRiM adds on top

A spreadsheet on its own has no forms, no validation, and no shared row-locking. FreeCRiM adds:

  • A web app for browsing and editing companies, contacts and deals without hand-editing cells.
  • Row identity that survives someone re-sorting the sheet, so a link to a contact keeps pointing at the same contact.
  • A fast cache of the workbook's rows, so opening the app does not mean waiting on a live spreadsheet read every time.

None of that changes where your data lives. It is still your workbook, in your Microsoft 365, whenever you want to look at it directly.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to know Excel to use FreeCRiM?
No. You work through the FreeCRiM web app like any other CRM; the workbook is what makes your data yours, not something you have to edit by hand.
Can I still open and edit the workbook directly in Excel?
Yes. It is an ordinary Excel file in your own Microsoft 365 storage. Editing a row in Excel is picked up the next time FreeCRiM reads the workbook.
What happens to my data if I stop using FreeCRiM?
Nothing. The workbook stays in your Microsoft 365 storage exactly as it was, and you can keep working with it in Excel with no export step.
